I read this gripping story. It's about a person who fakes entire personalities over the Internet, sucking people into her web. And it has Harlan Ellison in it! Bonus!

There's a harrowing passage from this article that reminds me of fights I have had, and the wisdom I eventually gained.
She starts packing. Will — Tania’s boyfriend — is quivering with rage. He’s young, and doesn’t understand yet how random, insane and chaotic the universe is. He still lives in a world where answers will be provided if you demand them.

“What the fuck is wrong with you, bitch?” he yells. “What the fuck were you thinking?”

She looks up at him with her cow eyes and shakes her head.

“I don’t have to explain myself to you.”

I pat him on the shoulder. He’s never going to get the answers he wants.
How sadly true this is.

This is fucked on a level that I can't even begin to imagine. That ain't emotional rape, honey - it's *TORTURE*. I would hope that there's a very special chair in hell for people like this.

Reminds me of a co-worker, Legal Spouse. Legal Spouse's marriage to Silly Spouse was broken up. Silly Spouse met Dream Someone online. Silly Spouse met Dream Someone in person. Dream Someone was not physically attractive enough, though perfect else. Silly Spouse broke off with Dream Someone online.

Dream Someone invents perfect, physically and else, Alter Ego. Much drama ensues. Silly Spouse goes on real cruises and such, but always "misses" Alter Ego. Alter Ego disappears during stay in mental hospital. Dream Someone meeting with Silly Spouse claiming to be friend of Alter Ego and passing news during hospital stay. After Alter Ego "dies", Alter Ego's fictional family threatens Silly Spouse's children and Legal Spouse. Much real shit goes down in real world as school and law enforcement are notified of threats.

In the fall out, marriage is lost.
