| Swedish Bazaar |

On Saturday, I also went to the Vasa Drott Lodge Swedish Bazaar, and bought a lot of Swedish things; mostly food. I really miss Sweden a lot.
I got a wheel of knackerbrod (crisp bread), some Swedish cheese, cloudberry jam, a few rolls of Marabou bytes, and some Swedish Honey. We also got some tomtegubbar candle sets (tomtegubbar are Swedish gnomes).
I like Swedish cheese a lot. I haven't been much of a cheese person in my life; sticking mostly to American favorites like cheddar, mozzarella, and provolone. I am not a fan of brie (sour), Swiss (bitter), or "American" (plastic). I am not into stinky cheeses, feta cheese makes my tummy hurt, cottage cheese gives me horrible breath, and blue cheese makes me terribly ill to the point I get a fever (apparently it's the blue mold). But when I went to Sweden, Swedish cheese? Oh man. Graddost, Hushallsost, and Prastost... to die for. And no wonder! I found out yesterday they use whole milk and it's 45% fat per volume! Yee...! [note to self, cut the cheese... snicker]
We sat down with a fellow lodge member (yes, I am a member) named Gerry who lives in my hometown of McLean. I think he's the dad of someone I grew up with. Anyhow, he's a retired computer programmer, and now travels between Maine, Sweden, Finland, Florida, and the DC area all year long. Dang. The food was good there, too, and I found out Kristall is now bottled in the US so it should be easier to get now. |
