- Yes, go to LJ, but under a different alias
- No, stay with Greymatter, reopen comments
- No, stay with Greymatter, no comments
- I don't care

Thanks! :)

Ok, I'll start with my $0.02...

From a purely selfish point of view, I'd love to have your personal blog on LJ, because I could keep track of it easier. I admit to being a bear of very little brains when I say that I forget to check your personal blog even though I find your personal entries a mix of entretaining and insightful.

Objectively speaking, there are some things that you can do to address some of your concerns:

  • Paid accounts do get priority, and I rarely notice much in the way of lag. Yeah, it is $25 per year, but I guess I look on it as a small price to pay to support something that has helped me stay abreast of what is going on in people's lives when I am too swamped to call

  • You can actually extract/archive your blog entries using the LJ Export feature. Yes it requires due dilligence to perform such an export, but at that point you then have it searchable locally

  • I thought that the style system did give a pretty decent amount of control over what you can do... I know my brother [info]mazinger_z managed to do some decent customization (not that he ever posts anymore, but that is another story. Check out the LJ Customization FAQ (which you probably have, I'm just sayin'...)

My recommendation (selfish motivations noted) would be LJ, almost preferrably with one jounral name. But I guess it is up to you how you feel about mixing personal entries with observational/tech entries. Cheers!

I only read LJ, so I'm totally prejudiced towards going to all-LJ for my personal convenience. ;)

Root around on [info]lj_nifty; someone's written a "search this journal" tool-toy. Of course I forget all its details, like where to find it.

There's also a built-in feature: go to your userinfo page:
http://www.livejournal.com/userinfo.bml?user=punkwalrus

See the little blue box at the top that's full of icons? The far right icon is a microscope - that's "Search This Journal".

On speed issues: Paid members get to use the "fast lane" on the servers. It really makes a nice difference.

Well, I love visiting your site for blog, as it gives me an excuse to read your other writing and such. And check the site updates. Admittedly, it would be easier to keep up on LJ, as I read so much there already...but it would be a loss to not be able to go to punkwalrus.com every day.

I guess my vote is for the punkwalrus.com blog. That, and you have your own URL! I wish I had my own! (revealing true geekiness)

I had been kind of wishing you had an RSS feed (or whatever it's called) for LJ from your other blog. My lazy LJ side would find it handy. :)

Wait, that wasn't the question?

You could always host your own blog on punkwalrus using the Livejournal software.

- Yes, go to LJ

That's my choice. Others above me have pointed out that you can do a LOT of customization to the Look of your LJ, and there are search options available.

Honestly, It can be a while between times I check your personal Blog, and by the time I do, any comments I might want to make are irrelevant. Lj is so easy for me since I check it so much more frequently.

yep, LJ

i'm with the crowd, its easier for me to read here, because i come here for my own reasons and then it occurs to me to read up on my friends' pages.... i really like reading your blog thoughts... LJ is the easier vehicle for me to read/remember to check.

LJ, pretty please?

another possibility is that you could create another account for the personal log - have that one be the paid account & keep the tech journal unpaid.

and of course you could always start a punkwalrus community...

I'd love to see you go to LJ because then I wouldn't have to remember to go look somewhere else for stuff that you've written.

If you feel better about having a seperate tech journal, then make one. Keep PunkWalrus as your main one though, then make a new name for the tech one.

I, for one, have never noticed a lag on LJ since I became a paid member. And it looks like everyone before me told you how to solve all the other issues, such as searching. So, I say, LJ all the way!

I'm a lazy sod, and I freely admit it. I like the convenience of going straight to my LJ Friends page and everybody's right there.

I will second [info]bureinato's suggestion of an RSS feed if you do decide to keep the personal blog with Greymatter.

I do believe there are utilities designed to let you dump all your LJ entries out to various file formats, so there is an out if you need it.
