Tech - ShmooCon?

Wow, the people who do Shmoo are coming close to you!

ShmooCon will be an all-new, annual East coast hacker convention hell-bent on offering an interesting and new atmosphere for demonstrating technology exploitation, inventive software & hardware solutions, as well as open discussion of critical information security issues. The first annual ShmooCon will be held February 4-6 2005, at the Wardman Park Marriott Hotel, in Washington, D.C., just minutes from your choice of overly-curious 3-letter agencies.

Hmmm... I have always wanted to attend DefCon, but never had the $$$. This is $99 for pre-reg, but you know, here's a known hacker group, who wants me to pay by Paypal for an unproven convention...

... I always said if I go to DefCon, I am bringing a Laptop with no hard drive(just boot off Knoppix CD), and not logging into anything I care about being hacked. I would apply the same Caveat here, too. Oh, and here's a fun tidbit:

Everyone that attends ShmooCon receives a Shmooball, which may be used during a presentation, by attendees, as the physical manifestation of their objection to statements made by a speaker. The Shmooball is not about personal hostility--so don't "bean" a speaker with your Shmooball. The Shmooball is about technical or philisophical disagreement--so if you hear something you don't agree with, let your Shmooball fly, in as orderly a manner as is possible. Shmooballs are finders-keepers, so choose your moments and manner of objection wisely. Naturally, hoarde Shmooballs when the opportunity presents itself--you never know when you'll need extra ammo. Speakers, heads-up!

I could use those at work! :-D
