In other news, apparently, the Metrorail station exit I use to get to work is to be demolished by the end of this year to make way for the "Silver Spring Transit Center." They are going to merge the Metro, MARC, and the bus stops into one big plaza mess. "The plan, when finished, will contain 43 local bus bays, 6 inner-city bus bays, subway station access, commuter rail station, 45,000 square feet of retail, and a kiss and ride area with 47 parking spaces." Meanwhile, from the end of 2006 to the end of 2008, assuming I still work here, your Uncle Punkie will have to either walk around or through a ton of construction to get to work. On top of this, our building and surrounding parking garages will be made into a "temporary bus center." This is bad for one major reason: crime around the bus area is really bad. While it has significantly lessened since I started working here, I do still see gang activity from time to time in the Plexiglass booths, drug deals, tons of graffiti/gum/trash, and not to mention the normal crowding/traffic issues this will cause.
Of course for the new Korean deli place that opened up in the building, this will be like manna fell from the flippin' sky.
