Halloween 2006 - A Night Well Worth Spending Out

Random kids getting treats

We had incredible weather. It got a bit chilly towards the end, but man, my pictures sure show how gorgeous it was. We didn’t get as many trick or treaters this year, maybe about 30. Which meant I had stuff left over. This went to work, and was MUCH appreciated by the employees. The paratroopers were a hit, especially, as the those with rooftop access made plans...

But I spent last night with my family, including anyarm and Brad. We sat outside, gave out candy, and then went to Starbucks. Some highlights:

- Last year, I got a “Halloween Effects” CD for $7 at a Halloween store. I burned it to mp3, and waited until this year to use it. I should have waited longer; it was terrible. Among the usual sounds one expects to hear were musical numbers that sounded like underbudget experimental theater doing free concerts under the stars. A lot of people who wanted to sound like Yoko Ono, Bono, Vincent Price, and John Williams with a $120 synthesizer from Kmart. Some all at once. It had this feeling like the maker of the CD had some space to fill, and said, “My sister has a band in Soho...” By the end, it became hysterical because some of the music was soooo bad. “Hey! This is my favorite song,” was the joke of the night.

- I think part of the reason there were a lot less kids was that we kept hearing professional fireworks in the distance. There might have been some big Halloween bonanza down the road. They always give out the crappiest candy...

- anyarm almost chickened out at Starbucks because her schoolgirl skirt was too revealing. But she didn’t. Some of the Starbucks employees wore costumes.

- I didn’t start NaNoWriMo at midnight like a lot of you. I didn’t want to look at the clock and say, “Gee... it’s already 6am! Time to get ready for work... after this page...”

I also want to thank anyarm and CR for helping set up and take down.
