Well... kudos for sticking with what people voted. I am kind of glad they didn't go with obvious names after ancient Gods, Japanese heroes, or other new-age sounding names. For instance, some of the others were Aiko, Libertad, Mira, Kaimana, Aurora, Shanti, Amal and Manami. I wish zoos would adopt this now. I mean, it's one thing to have a name, "It means cherished spirit in Swahili," but there are so many of them now, we need a break. Watch soon for tigers named, "Bigteeth," and giraffes named, "ZOMGImTall!"
Out of 11,000 submissions in our competition to name the humpback whales we were tracking on their migration to the Southern Ocean, we narrowed it down to the final 30. Over 150,000 people then voted for their favourite name. Mister Splashy Pants is the winner by a nautical mile!
